The military
technology that had become available by the opening days
of the Civil War, and which then rapidly evolved under
the pressure of competion from both sides, made it one of the
bloodiest and most brutal conflicts in human history. And also
one of the most challenging for those involved in the healing
arts. Our Museum includes a remarkable collection of material
related to surgery and medicine as practiced at the time. In
addition to surgical tools, the collection also includes apothecary
and pharmaceutical materials, as well as archival documents
such as personal letters and journals of the participants.
